Frequently Asked Questions

Add watermark FAQs

Answers to the questions people ask most about using Add watermark.

How do I add a watermark to a PDF?

Open Add watermark on MyPDFMate, upload your PDF, type your text or upload a logo, adjust the opacity, angle and position, and click Add watermark. It's stamped on every page.

Can I add a watermark to a PDF for free?

Yes. It's free with no sign-up, and MyPDFMate adds no watermark of its own.

Can I use my logo as a watermark?

Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG image. PNG with a transparent background looks best.

How do I add a CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT watermark?

Type the word as your watermark text, set the angle to about 45° and the opacity to around 20–30% so the document stays readable.

Where can I place the watermark?

In the center, tiled across the whole page, or in a corner. Tiled watermarks are the hardest to crop out.

Can I make the watermark transparent?

Yes. Use the opacity setting, since lower opacity keeps the content underneath easy to read.

How do I add a watermark without Adobe Acrobat?

Use Add watermark in any browser, with no Acrobat Pro needed. Mac Preview has no watermark feature.

Can a watermark be removed?

The watermark is drawn onto the page, so it can't be switched off in a viewer, but a determined person with a PDF editor could remove it. For stronger protection, add a password with Protect PDF too.

How do I make a PDF watermark permanent?

The watermark is drawn into the page content, not added as a removable layer. To make it impossible to edit out, convert the watermarked file with PDF to JPG and back with JPG to PDF, which flattens each page into an image (text is then no longer selectable).

Can I watermark only some pages?

The watermark is applied to every page. To watermark only some, extract those pages, watermark them, and recombine with Merge PDF.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The watermark is added in your browser, and your PDF is processed in your browser.
